Amnesty International

Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide campaign that promotes internationally recognized human rights. The organization’s annual report examines human rights abuses in various regions and also provides country-specific information.

Human Rights Watch

The largest human rights organization based in the U.S., Human Rights Watch conducts and documents fact-finding investigations into human rights abuses in more than 70 countries around the world.

The State Department

The U.S. Department of State, which is the foreign affairs agency of the U.S. government, compiles reports annually on human rights practices. The most recent report, released last month, singles out Zimbabwe, Cuba , Belarus, China, Iran, North Korea and Burma as countries that allegedly subjected their citizens "to a wholesale deprivation of their basic rights". The report acknowledges that the US's "own journey toward liberty and justice for all has been long and difficult, and it is far from complete".
